Richard Koh Projects is pleased to announce Attasit Aniwatchon’s (b.1968, Thailand) solo exhibition in Bangkok. The Melodrama: Images, Pictures and Paintings is scheduled to run from 18th April until 9th May 2020 at Richard Koh Projects, Unit A, 3rd Floor, N22 Art Warehouse, 2198/10-11 Narathiwas Road Soi 22, Chong Nonsi, Yan Nawa, Bangkok 10120, Thailand. The artist will present six acrylic paintings.
True to title, The Melodrama: Images, Pictures and Paintings unveils a garish and gaudy collage of various toys, inanimate objects and inflatables presented with dramatic flair. Bold and unrestrained in creative vigour and campy humour, Aniwatchon amplifies his trademark style of kitschy imagery, showcasing a series of playful and perturbing vignettes.
The artist is influenced by a state of non-pretension following a spate of breaks from painting. Recreationally experimenting with an assortment of software applications, Aniwatchon discovered an affirmative and carefree joy upon examining the aftermath of transformative 3D avatars. The ability to fully immerse in this newfound exuberance provided the artist further fuel for alternate narration in his art, where a sense of parody and wit ensued. The final results conclude with a rapid combination of spontaneity and unexpected candidness.
