The exhibition explores issues related to contemporary politics and the interference of military armed forces in specific socio-political landscapes. The armed forces continue to persist as a unit and body of unwavering authority, with haphazard consequences. Robit’s works zoom in and question the necessity and possibility of a liberated, post-militarized universe. At the same time, the artist gathers and conjures images of supremacy at its current reign.
Our present reality is warped with human tragedy and catastrophe, but also filled with an instinctive yearning to respond with hope. Robit embodies this sensitivity in Out of This World and draws on an imagined and metaphorical geography for a parallel future and universe, where his artistic voice emerges victorious.
Complementing his use of stark colours and intense scenarios, Robit employs imagery that ranges from the morbid, the carefree and the ever-present volatility of surviving. At the heart of Out Of This World remains a pertinent longing to find one’s personal identity and freedom in the rigidity of a guarded political landscape.
