Richard Koh Fine Art (RKFA) is pleased to announce Sergio Fermariello’s (b.1961, Italy) solo exhibition in Singapore. Warriors is scheduled to run from 7 – 29 Feb 2020. The artist will present 7 works on canvas and a video work.
“In the beginning, you just observe the figures with quiet curiosity. You are unable identify these shapes just quite yet. You watch the lights for a while then turn your eyes away, but your vision still bears the mark of those shapes.”
The symbol of the warrior can be expressed in varying directions and concepts, but its origins begin from a basic need to hunt, strengthen and live. The artist conveys a primitive desire and call to contain his paintings as vessels for warriorhood – built, evolving and rapt for both spectator and canvas. The core of Warriors lies in the artist’s fascination with the oscillation of empty space, time and obliteration of ego.
With a tender but vigorous approach to subtle storytelling in his works, Fermariello employs meditative repetition to encapsulate the essence of the warrior. This process is common to many cultures, not only in art, but also in rituals, prayers and dances. The artist is inspired by the immediate tranquillity of mind following a formulized rhythm from obvious aspects in daily life. Transcending the need for linguistics and entering a primal state of free flow painting, Fermariello is interested in a psychoanalytic approach to exploring his medium of choice.
