Richard Koh Fine Art (RKFA) is delighted to present Yang Jiechang – Still Trembling, a solo exhibition in occasion of RKFA’s tenth anniversary, at 229 Jalan Maarof, Bukit Bandaraya, Bangsar, 59100 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 13 June to 11 July, 2015. The opening reception will be held on the 13th of June (Saturday) 2015 from 2 – 8 pm.
Yang’s belief in the complete merge between art and life is especially exemplified in his exploration of the self and the human body in “abnormal” conditions. In his more recent works, the emergence of human skulls and body parts are used to provoke astonishment and conjure humour instead of focusing on their despairing associations. Furthermore, being based in the West though formally trained in the East, the artist has always questioned his cultural identity and has never entirely relied on his Chinese background and openly embraces cultural influences encountered in his adopted countries. He actively confronts and embraces these exchanges with other cultures.
