Hasanul Isyraf Idris – Fruiting Bodies

Blank Canvas presents Fruiting Bodies, a solo exhibition by Penang-based artist Hasanul Isyraf Idris. Taking its title from the reproductive structures of fungi, the exhibition considers the visible forms that emerge from complex, interconnected networks beneath the surface. Hasanul’s recent painting practice draws from the biodiversity of a plot of land acquired by his family in Selama, Perak, where he has gradually developed a home and studio. As parts of the land are cleared for human habitation, its surrounding natural environment continues to flourish, revealing an abundance of local flora and fauna. These specimens have become recurring subjects in Hasanul’s paintings, forming an evolving visual record of the land’s biodiversity.
