REVERIE: Paintings for the Observer & the Observed – A Survey of Works from 2020-2026 by Justin Lim

The Private Museum presents Reverie: Paintings for the Observer and the Observed – A Survey of Works from 2020–2026 by Justin Lim, bringing together key bodies of work from a pivotal six-year period in the artist’s practice. Emerging during the Covid-19 pandemic, these paintings reflect a time of isolation, uncertainty, and confinement, as Lim returned to painting’s fundamentals and turned his attention to domestic interiors and everyday objects.

With cinematic framing and meticulous detail, Lim transforms familiar spaces into contemplative worlds where memory, time, and lived experience converge. Presented as a survey, the exhibition traces the continuity and evolution of his visual language, while considering how individuals find meaning through the spaces they inhabit and objects they surround themselves with.

Moving between the roles of observer and observed, Reverie invites viewers to reflect on looking, remembering, and dwelling, revealing the domestic interior as a site of refuge, imagination, connection, and human experience. The exhibition runs from 17 September to 6 December 2026.
