Richard Koh Fine Art Bangkok is thrilled to announce the upcoming solo exhibition “The Container” by Thai artist Temjai Cholsiri. Running from 3 August to 24 August 2024, the exhibition invites viewers to delve into the intricate relationship between the mind and the body through a captivating blend of installation art, painting, and sculpture.
Cholsiri is celebrated for her profound conceptual works, and in “The Container”, she explores the body’s role as a vessel for the mind. The artist utilizes mainly construction materials to craft forms that symbolize the robust shell of the body. These materials, often associated with strength and structure, provide a stark contrast to the ethereal nature of the mind. Yet, they also serve to anchor the mind, grounding it in the physical world.
Complementing these structures are fragile, intangible forms that embody the abstract state of the mind. These elements, while seemingly ephemeral, are integral to the installations, reflecting the substantial impact of our thoughts and consciousness on our existence. The intricate arrangement of these contrasting elements across the exhibition space speaks to the delicate equilibrium that exists between the mind and the body, a balance that is constantly negotiated as the two components rely on each other for support and existence.
Cholsiri’s work in “The Container” is more than an exhibition; it is an invitation to contemplate the complexities of our existence. Through this exploration of the interplay between the physical and the abstract, viewers are encouraged to consider the fundamental human experience of being a mind within a body.
Temjai Cholsiri (b.1993, Thailand) is an installation artist and printmaker who uses the natural properties of materials as a medium to convey her ideas of awareness in beings.
